MTS income up 14 per cent

Leading Russian mobile operator, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), yesterday reported that net income for 2005 grew 14 per cent year on year to reach $1.13bn (ВЈ646m), compared to %987.9m in 2004.

Revenues increased 29 per cent year on year to $5bn in 2005, compared to $3.8bn in 2004, although aggregated roaming dropped to $8.4 in 2005, from $12.2 a year earlier due to the seasonal decline in roaming revenues.

MTS maintained its leading market share during the year and finished 2005 with 35.1 per cent of the market.

Churn dropped to 20.7 per cent at the end of 2005 from 27.5 per cent in 2004 as MTS’ consolidated subscriber base increased by 24m customers during the year to increase from 34.2m to 58.2m customers at the end of 2005.

However, MTS warned that the market is expected to reach maturity in 2006 with the result of expected slower subscriber growth rates.
