China Mobile aims for 98% coverage by year end

ccording to the Interfax news agency, China Mobile plans to extend its service network to cover 98 per cent of the Chinese population by the end of 2006.

China Mobile’s CEO, Wang Jianzhou, declared the target in Beijing this week.

Mark Newman, chief research officer at Telecoms.com’s parent Informa telecoms and Media said: “The growth of the mobile phone business in China shows no signs of slowing. The extension of coverage outside of main cities into smaller towns shows that the mobile phone will become the de facto communications tool for tens or even hundreds of millions of Chinese people.”
